Czeslaw Milosz wrote “the true enemy of man is generalization”, a sentiment we will always stand by. We are looking for serious poems, poems of sharp clarity and great worth, specific poems that deny the generalisation of our ‘fast-food’ culture. Poems that tackle the quotidian and so expose the grandiose. We will also consider jpegs that do this work. In a world where a poet can be imprisoned for speaking out against tyrannical governments, Direct Contrast stands with poetry in the very way we say we do: directly, and in contrast to the less-experienced garbage of meaningless discourse, the prattle that too often pollutes our artform.
